About me and my therapy practice
Jill Hunter MÍø±¬ÃÅ, Dip Child Counsellor - Next Chapter Counselling
Even in the best stories there are difficult chapters. We all need help at times, navigating the ups, downs, ins and outs of our own stories. I hope I can help turn the page to a new chapter or if needed start a new book.
I have 20 years experience working in schools with children and young people as a Teacher, Counsellor and Creative Arts Therapist.
I am an Integrative counsellor, trained in different models of therapy and draw from humanistic, psychodynamic and creative arts therapies. I use art, play, and creative expression, to help clients find ways to communicate when words may be difficult. My sessions are Child/Person-led, allowing for autonomy, choice, and emotional safety. Every child holds the potential for growth and healing when met with understanding, acceptance, and creativity.
By providing a safe, accepting, and supportive space, children and young people can explore feelings, build resilience, and make sense of their experiences at their own pace.

Practice description
I believe a therapeutic space should almost feel like a gift to self. Even though the work itself can be challenging, upsetting and tricky I would hope I can provide a space that is welcoming and safe.
Working with children and young people I will support them in leading the session. I will be able to notice what is being avoided, what their focus is and where their confusions lie.
If they want to talk, we talk but a lot of the time words are hard or not enough and I can offer other ways of expressing, communicating and exploring with drawing, play, clay and stories.
My aim is to build a relationship based on trust, warmth, acceptance, and understanding.
My first session
The first session is about working out if we are the right fit for each other. A space to ask questions and understand more about what brought the child and young person into the therapy space.
The session would be 50 min and depending on the circumstances, age of child/young person, would probably be with the parent/carer/adult only.
A second 50 min introduction session would then be with the child and parent/carer/adult so there is full transparency and understanding as to why counselling is needed.
