About me and my therapy practice

I offer an open, accepting, non-judgemental, reflective, working relationship with my clients, in an ethical, safe space, where clients may explore thoughts, emotions, feelings, and concerns, for personal development, to increase awareness and insights (helping to make decisions), facilitate change or to work toward specified and defined goals. Or you may simply need a safe quiet space in which 'to just be!'

Towards this aim, I offer an initial assessment session, so we may briefly discuss your concerns, you may ask questions of me and see what I offer, we may decide and agree if it is appropriate for us to work together and we agree a course of action . We may then contract to work together in either short (Brief or Solution-focussed therapy) or longer (exploratory), open-ended therapy. If we choose not to work together, I will endeavour to refer you to other therapists or appropriate helping agencies if you wish.

Practice description

MY APPROACH

I am a Humanistic, relational practitioner, seeing people as WHOLE and CREATIVE BEINGS. Integrating holistic Person-centred, Transactional Analysis and Gestalt modalities (see Wikipedia for descriptions), I consider the client the expert on their own life, and as such, recognise the client's self-knowledge and personal power in making meaning for themselves.

Research suggests the differences between types of therapy may not be as important as the nature of the relationship that is built up between two people; thus I aim to offer empathy, congruence, authenticity and unconditional positive regard toward the aim of creating a warm, trusting, non-judgemental, and open working relationship. I like to refer to my broad 'tools in my tool-box,' and offer my experiences and training in using some cognitive-behavioural therapy and psychoanalytic principles also.

I work relationally, fostering awareness of processes between people and to self. I am deeply committed to promoting respect and equality of opportunity, being sensitive to culture and ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, race and ability.

My first session

Assessment sessions are really just an opportunity for us to have a talk about what brings you to therapy, what your goals and need for support is, and allows me to assess if I can safely and ethically offer the services you need.

Assessment session fees are half a normal session fee, that is £30.

To ensure clarity and avoid disappointment, please be advised that there is a distinction between regular therapy sessions and the assessment session. The assessment meeting may involve more direction and questions from myself, as I assess your holistic circumstances- history, social contexts, risks, etc. . We will have a lot of information to share between us. It will not entail in-depth explorations yet, but give you the opportunity to reflect on what supports you need at this moment in time, how you would like those to operate and for you to assess me too- how, and in what way, I may best assist you.
