About me and my therapy practice
Starting counselling can feel like a big step, but just like our physical health we need to take care of our mental health. Having some time each week to focus on yourself can benefit everyone, whether you are experiencing huge life events or just want to improve your sense of self. Giving yourself time to work through and process feelings can really help to shift where your feeling stuck.
I offer a space that is honest, genuine and warm for you to explore all areas of your life. I will support you in being self-directing and autonomous in your journey in becoming the person you really want to be. I have specific training and an interest in grief and bereavement, this includes recent losses or it could be many years ago, it would also include experiences of multiple losses and supporting others in their grief such as a care worker or NHS worker.
I also have an interest in the pressures of becoming a parent and believe passionately that parents need to create space for themselves. If you are struggling with becoming a first time parent or finding the balance of life and children hard then please make some time for yourself and make contact.
My other role is a paediatric nurse in the NHS so I have an understanding of the pressures of working within the NHS. Please ask for a reduced price if you are a NHS worker.
Practice description
I have a Foundation Degree in Person-Centred Counselling. A course which is accredited with the Íø±¬ÃÅ (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy)
I have experience in the voluntary sector working with carers, the elderly and teenagers all with varying ranges of problems. I previously worked in a hospice with people experiencing a bereavement or loss and I have some extra training in this area.
As well as this I am a qualified paediatric nurse so I have plenty of experience working with young people and families, and understand the pressure and stresses of being a parent.
I am a member of the Íø±¬ÃÅ and follow their ethical guidelines.
My first session
Your first session is a little different to the rest of your counselling because I generally like to find out a bit about you. This will include who is important to you in your life, important life events that have shaped you as a person and your hopes for counselling. I find gaining some details about you in your first session allows you to talk freely in the forthcoming sessions without having to stop and explain certain people or life events to me.
The rest of your sessions I leave up to you in terms of what you want to bring but I will never leave you hanging if your feeling stuck and over time we will discover how to get the best out of your sessions.
