About me and my therapy practice
I have worked as a qualified counsellor since 2002 with adults and young people in various settings: a GP surgery, a charity, a low-cost clinic, primary and secondary schools, and in private practice. Prior to my counselling training I worked in the fields of mental health, homelessness, drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
I currently work in private practice and a secondary school, and offer long and short-term work with adults, couples, young people and children. I offer face-to-face, in-person and online counselling and telephone counselling.
My central approach is psychodynamic but over the years, my practice has developed to be more integrative. I offer a creative, safe, positive space for clients to explore their past, present and future. I consider a clients whole life experience to be important in our work together. I try to give time and attention to what takes place in the room - in the here and now. It is a collaborative space, my stance being strongly relational - valuing the importance of relationships and our experience of these throughout our lives. I work in a way that is more alongside clients, helping them to work out the connections between things, and supporting them to find their own voice, and their own path.
Therapy can help us develop greater insight and heal emotional wounds caused by past trauma. It can also help us develop our tool box of internal resources to manage life’s challenges, and move to a place of greater safety and wellbeing within ourselves. I have witnessed many clients achieve this in our work together.
My practice room is located in central Lewes, 5 minutes walk from the train station and bus routes and 2 minutes from a public car park.
Practice description
If you feel what I offer fits with what you are looking for, an initial chat on the phone can help you decide whether you would like to meet with me for a longer more in-depth consultation. This would provide an opportunity to ask any questions you might have and tell me a bit about yourself and what has led you to seek therapy. I can also tell you a bit about the way I work and about the therapeutic process if you are new to therapy.
Hopefully, this meeting will allow you to get a sense of the way I work and whether this feels right for you.
I also have an website which gives more detail about my training and experience (address above).
My first session
I offer an initial free 20 minute telephone conversation.
If you would like to take things further, the next step would be an initial consultation which lasts one hour. The fee for this is £50.
If you decide to return for counselling sessions, the fee for individual work is £60 per session. For couples and family work, the fee is £70 per session.
