About me and my therapy practice
If you are in the middle of a crisis, relational, work or health, I can work with you to make sense of and work out what you want to do next. I can help you process what is going on and find ways of feeling steadier.
If you can see repeating patterns in your life, which you recognise have deep roots and getting in the way of how you would like to live fully, I can sort through these with you to identify the roots. Then we would find ways to create different responses and so develop patterns you find healthier.
If you are really not sure if counselling is for you but you feel a bit at sea and directionless, then talking that through for a few sessions can help work out what is the key issue.
Practice description
We would start with an initial 30 minute consultation via Zoom. You'd get a sense of me and whether you think I would be a good fit for what you want to work on.
It means if I think someone else with a specialist set of skills would be more useful, I would recommend that.
Then we would book an assessment session of an hour. This means we can explore deeper what it is you are wanting and how we would work together.
If this is a sudden crisis we would be primarily focusing on the present and its impact. It would probably mean we could meet for a time-limited set of 6 to 12 sessions, with an option for more if wanted.
If the issues are more long-term, then it is likely we would imagine meeting for longer. We would be mapping out what has happened in the past and then clarifying how that impacts the present.
So for example if my childhood included a lot of insecurity and anxiety, it is quite likely I might grow up to find people and the world anxiety provoking and not very trustworthy. Sessions would mean thinking through where my ideas have come from and are they still relevant. How do I manage my responses differently and then start to build in new ones.
My first session
During our Zoom session we will have agreed a fee payable on the day of our first session. During this session, I will go through my Client Agreement and Client Record with you. This means for example you will know the remits of confidentiality and how I keep notes.
Once you have talked through in more detail what you want from meeting, I will then take some notes so I have a fuller understanding of what has brought you to counselling.
We would agree the focus for the sessions and set a review for the sixth session. This would be whether we have decided to have a limited number of sessions from the start or if we are going to check that out as we go along.
The point of therapy is to be out of it: this has got to be working for you. It is very important for you to feel comfortable enough to give me feedback. If what I am asking or saying doesn't seem very useful, then we both need to know.
As an integrative therapist, my training and experience means I call on a range of approaches to work in your best interests,

About me and my therapy practice
'Ethical Competence, Confidence, Compassion, Creativity': Inskipp and Proctor's 4 C's are key to me in the development of practice as a therapist and supervisor.
Myria Khan in 'Choosing a Supervisor'* talks about the supervisor's role to 'develop and encourage entrepreneurial spirit alongside clinical aspects'.
Both the above are about a holistic support and development of you as practitioner and your practice.
I draw on Hawkins and Shohet's 7 eyed model of supervision. If it suits you, I include creative and experiential ways of working. I want to encourage you in resilience and flexibility in whatever way those qualities best express you.
My supervisory experience includes:
time limited NHS settings
low cost and third sector counselling
private practice
supervision of supervision
I have worked with different approaches: integrative, person-centred, psychodynamic and systemic.
I work by Zoom and face to face, in whichever way works best for you and your caseload.
Fees: my standard fee starts at £60.00 with some reduced fee places for trainees.

Practice description
The foundation of my work is based on us creating a trusting mutual relationship, intended to support you. Using Inskipp and Proctor's 4 c's, competence means clarifying together if there are new skills to develop and gaining greater confidence in their use.
Creativity is intrinsic from use of metaphor and imagery to specific interventions like Sandtray. Those 'sparkling moments' (Robin Shohet : spoken) creates a connection or insight, which might take us in a new direction. There is creativity in keeping our work collaborative. I use creative interventions like Sandtray and small object work as part of my practice and it may be of interest or relevance to our work together.
I work with the Formative part of supervision: developing your skills. The Normative element is checking how work is being grounded ethically. The Restorative part of our relationship is when you may need to offload, recalibrate or vent. It links with Inskipp and Proctor's compassion, without which both for ourselves and the client our work becomes arid. Hawkins and Shohet's 7 eyed model holds focus on the relational and societal context with each client and with our relationship.
My first session
After an initial conversation, we would meet either by Zoom or face to face to go through what you are looking for. This would include me asking what are your expectations. I am interested in your previous experiences of supervision, good and bad. I anticipate that you want to know about me and how I work and what experience I have. So please ask whatever you want.
If we decide to work together, I would suggest 3 sessions to see if this would work to your benefit.

Practice description
With a background in education, I am practised at linking new skills to curriculum requirements. This is transferred to offering experience and theory to develop practice.
I primarily work from an experiential and collaborative perspective: participants being client and reflecting on their own process. Workshops balance the experiential with details of theory into practice as handout material.
Workshops are evaluated at the time and feedback taken on board for future development.
