About me and my therapy practice

My role is to help you make sense of, and/ or gain relief from, what is happening for you. I've been working with clients since 2009 - I'm an experienced & Íø±¬ÃÅ accredited counsellor, psychotherapist & EMDR therapist

I am trained to Masters level in Person-Centred Therapy.  I am a trauma-informed therapist, integrating the latest insights from neuroscience, attachment theory, and Janina Fisher’s Trauma-Informed Stabilisation Treatment (TIST). I have also trained in order to offer Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) to help you process any traumatising life events and experiences and their remaining current day impacts e.g.

  • Hyper-vigilance
  • Not feeling safe
  • Nightmares/ flashbacks
  • Finding it hard to trust others
  • Finding it hard to trust yourself
  • Feelings of worthlessness/ shame/ guilt

With extensive experience across various settings—i²Ô³¦±ô³Ü»å¾±²Ô²µ private practice, the NHS, charities, and educational institutions—I have worked with a wide spectrum of complex issues, including all forms of childhood abuse and trauma as well as specialised training and significant experience in supporting those affected by sexual violence. Here is an example of just some of the wide breadth of experiences through which I have supported clients:

  • Anxiety/ panic/ panic attacks
  • Depression/ low mood
  • Abuse - emotional/ sexual/ physical
  • Loss/ bereavement
  • Identity - questions around 'who am I?' across personal/ social/ gender/ sexual
  • Loss of purpose/ direction
  • Anger/ loss of control

I deeply understand that we are always striving to do our best, even when certain survival strategies no longer serve us. It is often during these pivotal moments that we seek therapeutic support. During my lengthy career of working alongside my clients, I have found myself continually amazed by our in-built human ability to face our challenges and begin to not just survive but thrive.

Practice description

In addition to my focus on individual therapy and EMDR, my background includes training and experience in relationship and couples counselling, particularly in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), as well as group therapy. While my current practice is centred on individual therapy, my experience in relational and group work enhances my ability to support us in exploring relational challenges and internal conflicts.

My commitment is to create a warm, honest, accepting, and empathetic therapeutic environment, where we can build strong and effective therapeutic relationships and, from this, we will work together to support you in creating positive change including relief from the concerns and symptoms detailed above.

I work in an anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirmative, anti-disabling way and I welcome people from all lifestyle choices and sexual orientations. I am continually informing myself about the breadth of cultural backgrounds and experiences that come together to make each one of us unique – I’d always hope to be able to meet you fully regardless of the differences between us.

First session:

What happens in a first session?

Talking Therapy:

If you are coming to see me for talking therapy, our first session will include my sharing some initial details of our agreement about therapy including the topics of confidentiality and what we do if we happen to bump into each other outside of the session. Finding it challenging to know where to start, and what to talk about initially, is not an uncommon experience. Nor is it uncommon to experience apprehension/ nerves/ anxiety.

Within our supportive relationship I trust that you will come to know for yourself what is most helpful for you to explore - even when the emotions and circumstances at hand may seem perplexing and unclear. Throughout this process, my sincere interest and gentle encouragement are intended to facilitate your articulation of experiences - I am committed to the notion that doing this contributes to the collective process of understanding, managing, and initiating the journey toward resolution and healing.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR Therapy):

If you are coming to see me for EMDR, our first session will share some similarities to if you are coming to see me for talking therapy e.g. agreements around therapy.
