A qualitative exploration of neurodivergent therapists鈥 experiences of interacting with others in the counselling profession

Dear Counsellor's,

My name is Simon Wade, I am in my final year of study as an undergraduate student completing my BSc (Hons) Counselling and Psychotherapy qualification at PCI College in Belfast. I am conducting a dissertation research project as follows:

The study is titled: 鈥淎 qualitative exploration of neurodivergent therapists鈥 experiences of interacting with others in the counselling profession.鈥

The research question is: 鈥淗ow do therapists, diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, experience interpersonal interactions with others within the counselling profession?鈥

I would like to invite qualified 网爆门 registered counsellors with a formal ASD diagnosis, or those who are in the later stages of being diagnosed, to a single one-to-one, semi-structured interview. Your insights could help shed light on the unique perspectives, strengths, and challenges autistic professionals may encounter in the counselling field, particularly in relation to interpersonal dynamics with peers, supervisors, and clients.

The interview will last approximately 45-60 minutes and will be held online via a digitally recorded zoom meeting. It is entirely voluntary, and all information will be anonymised and handled with the highest ethical research standards approved by PCI鈥檚 Ethics Committee.

Your views could contribute toward impacting an under-researched area in the counselling field, and potentially help with future training, practice, and diversity within the profession of counselling.

If you would like to participate, or if you have inquiries concerning the research project, please email me at simonwade@pcicollege-edu.ie.

Thank you for considering this opportunity. I greatly appreciate your time and the potential contribution you could make to this important work.
