Unmasking and therapy: Experiences of late diagnosed female (AFAB) counsellors with ADHD
Dear Counsellors,
My name is Laura Murphy and I am currently finishing my final year of my Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy BA (Hons) - Level 6.
I am a student member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I will be conducting a research project throughout the year and I require four qualified counsellors to help me with collecting data in the form of an 121 interview style.
The question I am basing my research paper on is 鈥淯nmasking and therapy: Experiences of late diagnosed female (AFAB) counsellors with ADHD鈥.
Due to my question focusing on the late diagnosis of females I am screening out males and I require a minimum age of 25. My interviews will be for a maximum of 60 minutes and I will be using a qualitative research methodology to gather my participants answers with semi-structured questions.
This will allow a deeper exploration of my participants experiences which will include eight questions.
These will be held via Microsoft Teams which will be secured by a password and I will be in a confidential setting in my college premises while they take place.
My participants can leave the process at any time with no consequences. This is a voluntary project where no payment will be made for counsellor participation.
An acknowledgment to make is due to myself having a late ADHD diagnosis and having my own experiences navigating the counselling process, I will be working closely with my clinical supervisor and research supervisor to be aware of my own biases and emotional well-being.
With the research I have conducted so far I feel that this is an under researched topic. I feel that my chosen question could help myself and other counsellors with knowledge of how counsellors with ADHD may experience client work differently. With new perspectives and findings it could help uncover unique challenges, perspectives and strengths that female counsellors with ADHD encounter.
As with the importance of confidentiality within the counselling profession all data collected will be maintained with strict confidentiality. Once my findings have been submitted all information will be carefully destroyed in line with GDPR regulations. I will be anonymising my clients throughout.
My proposal has been ethically approved by the panel of the ethics board.
Please see poster here.
If you would like to be a part of this research project, or if you would like any further information, please email me, Laura, at: 19157602@students.ncclondon.ac.uk.
With thanks in advance.
